BACKFIRE

When I picked up this movie for the first time, it was a blend of excitement (because I found a Jeff movie) and pleasure at seeing Jeff Fahey act again. Jeff is definately a talented actor, and convincingly shows it in this murder mystery/suspence thriller.
"Backfire" Before the night is over...someone will be rich, someone will be dead, and somone will be avenged. Starring... Karen Allen,  Jeff Fahey , Dean Martin Jr. , Keith Carradine, Dinah Manoff (off of Empty Nest).  Produced by Danton Rissner Directed by Gilbert Cates 90 minutes....Rated R With this excellent cast only heightens the chilling pleasures of this crafted suspense thriller. Mara and Donny are the ideal couple, young, rich and attractive. Only thing wrong with this picture perfect marrage are Donny's (Jeff Fahey) horrible nightmares of Vietnam that has haunted his dreams for over 10 years. The fury of artillery, the screams of the wounded men and the ominous putt-putt of choppers rage with in him and suddenly, there is blood everywhere.

The scene opens on Donny (Jeff Fahey) at war trying to get help over the radio/CB as guns blaze and bullets shoot over his head and land nearby. He runs for shelter and watches as his Comrades get hit and die. Donny crawls through a stream to a friend who got shot and then the scene turns gruesome. Donny wakes up in sweat as he shakes and lights a cigarette with the help of Mara (Karen Allen) his wife. Jeff Fahey plays Donny, a Very rich man that was sent to the Vietnam war, as he was there he witnessed horror, hell, madness, torture, compassion which no one could understand unless you have been there too. He came back from the war over 10 years ago and every night since that day he has been living in a nightmare. Karen Allen is Mara, a poor girl who grew up and married a rich, handsome man. But decided she wanted more from her life than just being Donny's wife. She could not stand the nightmares that invated their lives, so she got herself a lover, Jake (played by Dean Paul Martin Jr.) and together they went about getting rid of Donny and having it all themselves. Keith Carradine is Reed, the drifter in town that Mara picks up in a bar one night and proceedes to seduce him. Running from the law, Mara convinces him to stay and help her get rid of Donny once and for all. Jill (played by Dinah Manoff) is Donny's sister who has come back to their home town to be with her brother. As time goes by strange things start happening to Mara and she is convinced that Donny is out to drive her insane. The mystery of it all, Donny is in a coma! This is a movie worth giving it at least a second glance to watch and catch all the happenings going on. I tried not to give anything away so you could enjoy it yourself. It is truly a movie about betrayal, deceit, and murder which are the fuel of the plot twists that ignite the tension to a shattering climax.

I give this movie at least 3 start out of 5 for acting, interest, and ability to pull it off.
